Frequently asked questions

What are your scarves made of and how are they printed?

Our scarves are made of very high quality 100% cotton that's soft, light weight and breezy. They make a perfect shade scarf, lightweight shawl, as well as many other uses – sarong, hood, altar cloth, decoration – we'd love to see how you use them! They are printed with a traditional wood block hand printing technique. A wooden block is carved in the design, and hand dipped in fabric paint and stamped on the fabric to make the scarf. We quality inspect each scarf to make sure the printing turned out great, but because this is hand printed rather than computer screenprinted, each one will have lovingly handmade variations.

How do I care for my Jaya Moksha Sacred Geometry Scarf?

Because these scarves are hand printed and handmade, they are not meant to be machine washed or dried. Please hand wash in cold water, and line dry for best results and long life of the print!

Are your earrings hypoallergenic?

The main design of our earrings is made from either pure nickel-free brass or silver plating over brass, and all have either sterling silver or high-quality gold plated ear wires (over brass). So while not certified "hypoallergenic", in our experience, this combination of high quality metals works great for the vast majority of people, except those who can only wear pure gold, full sterling silver, or surgical steel jewelry due to metal allergies or who have a metal allergy to the zinc or copper in brass. If you do not know your skin sensitivity, please consult with a dermatologist or professional piercer before purchasing.

What materials do you use for your jewelry?

The golden metal in our jewelry is pure brass – nickel and lead free. Our silver rings, nose jewelry, and bracelets are sterling silver (92.5% - as with all sterling silver jewelry, silver must be combined with a little bit of copper so that it will keep its shape and can be made into jewelry). Ear wires on all earrings are sterling silver or gold plated. The silver metal on the body of silver necklaces and earrings is high quality silver plating over brass – all the beauty and shine of sterling silver but at a much more affordable price - with sterling silver ear wires on earrings. And our gold plated nose studs and septum rings are plated over sterling silver. Please see individual listings for more details.

Does brass turn colors or tarnish?

Pure brass is an alloy of zinc & copper, and will naturally oxidize over time with exposure to air, becoming a softer gold rather than bright shiny. Many customers prefer this softer antiqued look (one reason brass jewelry is so popular), but if you like it shiny, you can use a polishing cloth or natural polishes to brighten it up again. When brass is worn directly on moist skin, it can leave a very slight green tint for some people. This isn't permanent and will quickly fade or can be washed off with soap. The color comes from the copper in the brass reacting with moisture in the skin. Some people even value this reaction as they believe that copper's conductivity improves energy circulation in the body.

How do I care for my silver jewelry?

Jaya Moksha silver rings, nose jewelry, and bracelets are sterling silver and can be simply cleaned with a polishing cloth. Silver earrings and necklaces are made of silver plating (over brass), which is very high quality and will remain bright and shining with good care. (Silver plated earrings do have sterling silver ear wires.) As with all plated jewelry that you own, we do NOT advise taking it into salt water (pools, the ocean), chlorine (hot tubs, pools), or very hot water (hot showers, hot springs) as this may cause the plating to degrade. Otherwise, use a gentle polishing cloth to polish (Sunshine Polishing Cloths are great) and store away from humidity, heat, and air for the longest life of all your jewelry!

How do you recommend I store my jewelry?

The best way to store all natural metal & stone jewelry and keep it looking great is to first polish it to remove oil and dirt (keep a polish cloth handy where you store your jewelry) and then store it in a zip lock bag, case, or other closed container away from humidity, air, and heat.

How do you recommend I clean my brass jewelry?

I recommend Sunshine Polishing Cloths as a great way to polish all your silver and brass jewelry (available on Amazon for about $3 a cloth). You could also use a commercial brass polish, or there are several great natural ways to polish brass. 1) You can soak your jewelry in a mixture of ½ lemon juice, ½ water with a small amount of salt added, then rinse and dry. 2) You can cut a lemon in half, sprinkle with salt, and use the salted lemon to polish the jewelry. Rinse the jewelry and thoroughly dry. 3) You can coat the brass with a thin layer of a tomato-based product like ketchup or tomato paste. Allow to sit or rub gently with your fingers, and then rinse and thoroughly dry.

Do you use standard size ear wire?

Yes! All of our earrings have standard size/gauge ear wires, and all ear wires are either sterling silver or high-quality gold plating (see individual listings for details).
