I remember being interested in art at a very young age. My earliest memory was when I was in kindergarten. I was given an array of shapes and sizes of cut out construction paper and asked to make a two-dimensional picture using those shape. I specifically remember thinking how boring it was to make something two-dimensional when I could make something three dimensional. So I did. From there I never really stopped creating. Painting in my parents basement with whatever paints I could find. I would just paint. I would also make tons of toys and tools out of whatever junk I could find laying around. I grew up working with my dad in his construction business. I learned and fell in love with working with my hands giving me an endless search for more to build and create. I eventually found the art of welding while I was in college and kept on learning as I progressed as a sculptor. Once I found welding everything fell into place. I loved metal. I loved the thought of melting metal and abstractly creating something from nothing. Plus, it wasn't something most artists did.

When I was in college I went through a variety of art courses and I remember learning about other master's in art and I felt that if I was a true artist, the one truth I could take from the masters would be to pave my own path in art. To be as uniquely me as I can be. I never liked the idea of anyone telling any artist what is and isn't art or telling anyone else how something should be created. That is the beauty of being an artist! Creating whatever you want to create and however you want to create it. I didn't want to be a "tamed" artist that went through their life trying to perfect something that wasn't a pure part of themselves with intentions of the imagination. I wanted to be untamed. I am drawn to artists that took and still take chances. That make mistakes. They put it all on the line and refuse to be boxed in and edited. Raw. Beautiful. An Untamed Artist. This is what my purpose is. To reignite the world and bring real beauty back into the lives of others through creativity and art. In a world full of replicas and an overabundance of "stuff" lets all find our inner voice and allow ourselves to truly be Untamed Artists. -Sara Hamburger
