Ever walked deep in the forest? Did you stop, look and listen? Hear anything? See anything?
When I was a tiny girl I wanted to be Thumbelina and live in the woods. I imagined what my tiny house would look like. Who my fairy and woodland creature friends would be. What my little garden would look like.
As an adult, I decided to recapture my imagination and find out.
I spent hours and hours in the woods. Time spent quietly in nature and beauty. It reawakened the long-buried artist in me.
It soothed my soul. It restored my belief in the magic of fairy tales and the importance of finding and doing what you love. And now I want to share it with you.
Each fairy house starts with a walk in nature. All elements are hand gathered...branches, sand, rocks, pebbles, moss and lichens. Calling on the senses, combined with nature-inspired imagination and a great love of color and texture, these elements are molded with porcelain until a magical little dwelling emerges. No two are alike; they each seem to come together on their own, their stories told by the unique combination of stone, branch and sand.
So...what ARE fairies anyway? Are they real? Do you believe in them? What do they look like?
Well...whatever you want them to look like!
For me, they are positive energy. They are happy thoughts. Good luck. Beautiful color. They are the awesome inner strength and beauty that exists within all of us, we just have to find it. And use it.
So where should you put your fairy house? They are happy to live anywhere they can share their good energy. In your garden...tucked among your houseplants...in a special place in your home celebrating the memory of a loved one...bringing encouraging thoughts to a friend in need of a hug or a lift...as a keeper of a lifetime of wishes and dreams for your child or grandchild as they grow. Anywhere they can make someone happy, THEY are happy.
My hope in sharing my art with you is to make you feel good, believe in yourself, rediscover the ability of flora and fauna to soothe and inspire you, and to once again believe in the most important fairy tale of all...your own.
I hand design and sculpt all of my products, from the first branch gathered in the forest to the final wonder I am thrilled to put into my customers' hands. My favorite thing about my work is that it makes people happy.
I also offer custom work upon request.
Starting in April, 2018, I will begin offering classes, initially at my studio in Woodbury, MN, with plans to start mobile classes throughout the Twin Cities, and home classes upon request. My goal with these classes, in addition to responding to many requests from booth visitors and customers at local shows I've exhibited at, is multi-purpose. I wish to encourage people to love and appreciate nature; I wish to bring people together in an amazing process of creating art while at the same time experiencing a soul-soothing, esteem-building, calming and exhilarating activity; I wish to offer an informal, non-threatening, encouraging environment for anyone who hesitates to take an art class because they feel they are not 'good enough'. I wish to reach out to people of all ages who need a 'pick me up' experience with like-minded individuals.
