The hobby I chose is really quite popular. What makes my pieces stand out from others' is the fact that they are uniquely mine. There are no other paint pourings like them. They have their own spin and that gives them character and personality. I'll walk you through the process so you can get a sense of how I create each piece.
First I choose my colors. There is a color chart and I choose them based on this chart. Usually the colors that are opposite each other go very well together. For example, orange and purple. You wouldn't think they go but they make a great pair when doing a paint pouring. So vibrant!
Step 2 is mixing the paints. I mix each color in a plastic cup. Usually one part paint, one part pouring medium. The pouring medium is what makes the paint the right consistency to flow on the canvas. Also for many of my pourings I use silicone oil so that cells can form. A cell is created because paint and oil do not mix so the paint separates, creating cells. It really is mesmerizing to watch!
Next I choose a technique in which to use to create my beautiful art. This can be tricky because there are so many techniques to choose from. My favorite I have come across is called the swipe method. It is where I put the paints on the canvas ( silicone oil included) put white paint on the sides of the colors then gently swipe the white over the colors using a damp paper towel. Very fascinating to watch the cells pop up!
Lastly is the fun part! Pouring the paint onto the canvas. Once the paint is all poured onto the canvas I tip and turn it till I am satisfied with the outcome. The paint is very runny so it drips over the sides and sometimes onto the floor. It is a very messy process but so satisfyingly fun to create these works of art!
What inspired me is my brother. He used to have his own Etsy shop. He was always trying to make something new and exciting. He made beautiful wooden rings and signs using a CNC machine. This business was
an addition to his primary business of being a master craftsman. He made people's homes look beautiful. He was so talented. He made a go at his Etsy shop because he could no longer do the heavy work of his handy man business. Then one day he passed suddenly. My mom has an Etsy site and my other brother as well. I guess you could say we are a very talented family! My mom makes jewelry and my brother makes various items out of wood. I want to make a go at my little business to make my brother up in heaven proud. Most importantly I really enjoy paint pouring. Each piece I pour my heart and soul into!
