We are David and Kaoru Coates. We met at Emily Carr University in 1988, where Kaoru studied ceramics, and David graphic design. After decades in the corporate design world, we’re back making art together.
Always bringing gifts back to friends in her native country of Japan, Kaoru wanted something that represented Canada beyond maple syrup and smoked salmon. That’s where Riding the Pine began in 2015. With a desire to offer beautifully crafted, sustainable products for the home and for lovers of art and craft, we’re bringing Canadiana to the forefront.
Our products are at retailers across the Lower Mainland and we regularly participate in four to six handicraft markets every year. After seven years as a hobby, Riding the Pine was incorporated in 2021.
Some of the technologies we use are necessary for critical functions like security and site integrity, account authentication, security and privacy preferences, internal site usage and maintenance data, and to make the site work correctly for browsing and transactions.
