For copper, brass and other alloys, clear nail polish or enamel spray can be used to coat jewelry to prevent oxidation. While no method is ever perfect in preventing tarnish, this will help prevent jewelry from oxidizing. With costume jewelry, jewelry that is worn frequently, or jewelry kept in humid environments, do this every so often to make sure colors are sealed.

If noticing signs of corrosion, the following are a few ways to clean Copper:
1. Salt and Lemon: Slice a lemon in half and squeeze some juice on copper (***if your jewelry has stones in it be careful to work around the stones as lemon juice is corrosive***). Sprinkle some salt on copper and grab a piece of clean cloth to wipe away patina.
2. Lemon and Baking Soda: Combine equal portions baking soda and freshly squeezed lemon juice on a small plate to create a paste. If paste is too runny add more baking soda. Apply paste to copper. This solution works best for jewelry that has a lot of crevices. Use a clean cloth to rub away tarnish.

1. Soap! Use warm water & gentle soap. A soft toothbrush can be used to clean nooks & crannies a regular cloth can’t reach. Scrub away grime. Wipe clean w/dry cloth & let sit until *completely dry* before storing to prevent future tarnish.
2. Worcestershire Sauce & Ketchup: Create solution of 2 equal parts. Spread paste over brass & let sit for 1 min. (No need to scrub but you may if brass is extra-grimy) Rinse off solution & pat dry.
3. Lemon Slice & Salt: Put salt on inner citrus fruit of lemon slice & use to clean brass. If any grime left, use toothbrush to gently scrub.
4. Vinegar Paste: Combine 1 tsp of salt, ½ cup white vinegar, & some flour to create paste. Use paste to coat jewelry. Let sit for 10 mins. Rinse w/warm water & dry.
