Ribbon and Stumpwork Embroidery of Victorian Ladies Fashion Plate Copied on Fabric From La Mode IIlustree1880 in Antique Wood Oval Frame 14 " X 12 ". These were very popular Victorian Fashion Prints from La Mode Illustrée (France, 1875-1886). One of the best known French fashion magazines published in the second half of the 1800s. Distributed on a weekly basis, each issue featured a description of Victorian fashions and related accessories. The prints were hand-colored and inserted in the magazine along with the text pages describing the fashions. I copied two of the fashion plates onto fabric into one picture to ribbon & stump embroidery. The ribbon, lace beaded padded clothing is handmade by me.
This picture is very 3-D and deep; the beautiful Victorian Dresses are more than 1 1/2" deep in some places. Much of the ribbon and wire ribbon is so thick it took pliers to pull the needle with it through the artwork. If you are interested in Ribbon & Stump embroidery, I wrote several how-to articles for Ehow at http://www.ehow.com/how_5107001_do-ribbon-embroidery-stumpwork-embroidery.html. I also added beads to bottom of purse, dresses and headdresses, along with embroidered hair and dried flowers around the edge. This artwork is ready for hanging.
I have mounted this in an antique wood frame with glass to keep out dust. This frame and it's mate have age appropriate nicks and chips as pictured. For better viewing I could remove the glass for you as there is a lot to see in this picture. If you wish this mounted in matching frame without glass, (not required) I would make a reduced listing for you to $199. Just adjust the variation dial above to without glass.
As it is with glass in art is $225.00.
I have made a second one on this order with same frame at: https://www.etsy.com/listing/182333643/ribbon-stumpwork-embroidery-of-victorian?ref=shop_home_active_7
You can adjust the variation button above to buy the pair at a discount.
