This item is 35 beautifully patterned black and white feathers from a domestic chicken. They look in some ways like quail feathers. The pattern is called penciled or partridge laced but these are actually from an icelandic cross hen we raised here on our farm. I love these feathers. They are so pretty and unique! They look like game bird feathers and are in great condition.
These are body feathers, so they are soft and sort of fluffy. They vary in length from 2-3.5 inches long.
My feathers are from chickens raised by me on my small farm at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage. I raise hens for eggs and process the roosters for meat. It is important to me to use every part of an animal and respect them to the end. The chickens live on pasture in portable fencing so they are on fresh grass every day of the summer, and brought in to the barnyard to scratch in the mulch in the winter. This year we got a livestock guardian dog, bringing our losses from predation down to zero. We are striving to implement a poultry permaculture paradise, planting new forage producing trees and perennials every year, rotating ground, and always seeking to minimize what we have to purchase from outside, while using every possible product from the birds.
It may also interest potential customers to know that my farm and family are off grid. We catch or haul water, use wood or the sun to cook our food, and have a single solar panel for our few electric needs.
Shipping and Packaging
Most of my feathers cost about $1.00 to send, and an additional .10 per bag after that. I send them as a first class letter which is very fast and inexpensive. Larger wings and tails ship as a package, which is $3.50 and includes normal tracking. Any order over $35 gets free shipping in a package with tracking! I re-use padded envelopes from my neighbors to reduce waste!
