Embroidery pattern. Needle painting or silk shading PDF of a Common Kingfisher.
Ideal for anyone who loves to embroider. A great pattern to learn the technique.
“His Magesty”
Common Kingfishers are one of nature’s most brilliantly colored birds. Their beautiful plumage practically sparkles in its brilliance.
Silk shading, needle painting, or thread painting is a surface embroidery technique that utilizes mainly long and short stitch to achieve the look of a painting. Hence the name needle painting. It is a very forgiving technique and can be learned by anyone with a bit of practice and patience. And animals, like birds, are one of the easiest ways to learn this beautiful art form. Besides the stunning work of art that will be created in the end, embroidery is also an extremely calming and relaxing creative process. It’s a fun and wonderful way to pass the time.
**THIS LISTING IS FOR A PDF DIGITAL FILE ONLY- YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A PHYSICAL ITEM**.
Pictures look best on a device or computer so details can be enlarged and more accurately replicated. But, can be printed for convenience. PDF reader required to view file. I recommend Adobe Acrobat Reader. It’s free to download and use. If you need help installing it, let me know. This is a 34 page PDF document that includes:
- Materials list including floss brand and color numbers
- Tips and tricks guide
- Detailed stitching instructions with many step by step photos
Please note: Because of the intricacies of this technique, many different colors of threads are called for across 3 different brands, DMC, Anchor, and Cosmo. I have a DMC substitution list available if the other colors/brands aren’t found easily or unavailable. Just be wary that by using any substitutes, the overall look of the piece will change. Certain brands make specific colors the others don’t.
Finished size when mounted for framing is 8x10inches. Or will fit an 8inch hoop.
I’m more than happy to help you through the stitching process. If you have any questions or need help with anything, just let me know. This listing is for the pattern only. No stitch guide is included. There is a tricks and tips section, but basic knowledge of each stitch is needed to complete this piece. But, if you need help or have any questions about how to do any of the stitches, let me know and I’ll send you any information you may need. I’m always available to assist in any way.
I always love to see your piece in process. Feel free to tag me on Instagram @JDevinEmbroidery. And for the kingfisher, #jdevinembroiderykingfisher
