Native first people ledger blank book journal. Upcycling old books to create new favorites as blank book journals or diaries.
This is perhaps one of the most unusual book journals we have crafted from vintage books. I knew the moment I saw this book at a library sale that it would make an incredible book journal because it is, itself, a journal. The title is The Ledgerbook of Thomas Blue Eagle. The book itself is unusually sized lengthwise with opening at the top, about 12 inches wide and 6 inches tall. The covers are remarkably intricate green cloth with debossed black vintage ledgerbook-style filigree with a pastedown drawing on front and back. The boards are thicker than usual with rounded corners.
Inside, the lengthwise pages are in full color, and we have included every single page from the original book, including the handwritten story and colorful Native American drawings. Note that the pages are reproductions of actual ledgers of the time. Copyright is 1994. The story is about a Native American, a Sioux Indian, a fictional story based on fact.
I included some old journal paper (from a vintage handwritten store journal) plus matching colored cardstock and white writing paper.
At Write On, Inc., we carefully select vintage books (or contemporary books with amazing covers and interior pages) that have no commercial value, so don't worry, we haven't destroyed a valuable antiquarian treasure. We are upcycling old treasures and creating new ones—especially if you capture your poetry and daily thoughts inside or use it for a sketchbook. (We even recycle the pages we have removed into other flea-market craft items.)
Each book journal is one of a kind. These book journals make thoughtful gifts for colleagues, friends, family and especially for your personal use. A perfect daily journal, travel journal, food diary, thoughtful gift, or sketchbook. How about a baby shower gift everyone will talk about? Or a wedding guest registry?
But here’s the real cover story: Sometimes vintage books are in plentiful supply or they're being recycled by local libraries. We carefully list any of value on amazon and with others that have unusual or striking vintage covers and wonderful color or black and white plates, we create journals so you can repurpose yesterday’s books—some may be over 100 years old (please see specifics on this listing) or childhood or inspirational favorites.
Read between the covers: Many spines are tattered, so we remove those, smooth the edges and gently bind with plastic-coated spiral wire or o-wire. Before we put it all together, we select paper that matches or coordinates with the original pages, include a number of blank pages with no lines and then include charming color plates, black and white illustrations, maybe a contents page, or poems directly from the original book. (Sorry, the pens depicted are ours.)
We have begun using 100% recycled fine-quality off-white paper in some of our book journals.
