This note card features a reproduction of an original linocut: Mandarin Oranges. This artwork is reminiscent of the fruit crate labels of the 1930's and 40's. The front of the card reads "Mandarin Oranges From California" in a hand carved nostalgic script, along with an image of a couple of perky, ripe, orange mandarins. The back of the card contains a little history about the mandarin orchards of Placer County, California, the health benefits of eating fresh mandarins, and some info about my family's small business, Newcastle Produce (under new ownership as of 2022).
The original artwork is a multi-block linocut, meaning I hand carved a separate block of linoleum for each color, rolled printmaking ink on the blocks and printed each block in succession with a printing press which applies pressure to transfer the ink to paper.
These reproduction note cards were commercially printed for me from a scan of the original artwork. The cards are 5 x 7in. (12.6 x 17.8cm) and come with a white envelope. The inside is blank so you can write your own message.
Cards are shipped in a clear plastic protective sleeve in a sturdy padded mailer.
