Inked By YOU! For me, the creative process is meditative. Join me! By customer request, I am listing a few printable pdf's. The source is a 600dpi scan of the black & white line drawing that I created as I worked on the original piece.
St. Monica, mother of St. Augustine, prayed devotedly - and tearfully, and fruitfully! - for her husband and son's conversions. A faraway ship on turbulent waters illustrates the distance between a prayerful mother and wayward child. May this painting and the words of this traditional prayer serve as a reminder that no matter how distant they might feel, God is ever-present and hears our prayers.
The text of the prayer is:
Dear St. Monica, troubled wife and mother, many sorrows pierced your heart during your lifetime, yet you never despaired or lost faith. With confidence, persistence, and profound faith, you prayed daily for the conversion of your beloved husband, Patricius, and your beloved son, Augustine. Grant me that same fortitude, patience, and trust in the Lord.* Intercede for me, dear St. Monica, that God may favorably hear my plea for [_____] and grant me the grace to accept His Will in all things, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
{*Note: This painting was originally created for use on the front of prayercards...for the sake of readability at a reduced size, the painting includes the portion of the prayer up to this point...the full prayer is on the back of the prayercards in black and white hand-lettered text that is easier to read at a smaller size. Thank you for understanding!}
