Every Pysanka has a meaning held within its motifs and designs.
This pysanka includes:
Triangles - stands for any trinity
Stars - Eternal life and good fortune
Flowers - wisdom, elegance and beauty
The process
The process to make pysanky is similar to batik - layers of wax and dye are applied beginning with the lightest color (typically white) and working to the darkest (typically black).
Legend
There are many legends associated with the making of pysanky. My favorite tells the story of a monster chained high in the Ural mountains. Every year he sends his little minions out into the world to see how many pysanky are being made - when there are many, his chains tighten - restricting the evil. When there are few, the chains loosen - allowing evil to release into the world.
