The jewel beetle (Buprestidae) lives approximately 3 weeks in the adult stage . They swarm , mate and die leaving behind their beautifully colored wings and shell. They are farm raised in Thailand. The elytra(outer wings) are hard but very light weight. It is durable but can break if you sit something heavy on it or try to snap it. The color is natural. These earring are accented with glass triangle beads and are on gold finish earwires. They are approximately 3 inches long .
