A poke on her side awoke Ket from her slumber. Yawning, she sat up and surveyed the forest. What had interrupted her nap? Suddenly, she was snatched from her toadstool bed and found herself dangling in the air. She looked up to see a tree limb held her captive by her bloomers. She folded her arms and stared into the face of her captor. Her book had warned her that the trees in the Enchanted Forest loved to play tricks. She stared at the tree hollow that twisted into an ornery smile. A giggle rumbled through its mouth.
“Put me down right now!” Ket ordered. The limb shook as the tree laughed harder.
“I mean it! This is no way to treat a guest,” she pouted. A bark sounded from behind her and the tree before her frowned. With an irascible “humph!”, its long arm promptly plopped her on the grass.
