Claudette Colvin, born in 1939, was a civil rights pioneer who refused to give up her bus seat to a white passenger in Montgomery, Alabama, nine months before Rosa Parks. Her courageous act helped ignite the Montgomery Bus Boycott and advance the fight against segregation.
