I grew up in Korea and Belize with a wonderfully talented mom who was always keeping herself busy with the latest quilting project. My earliest sewing memory is of stuffing cottons into a little bunny doll garland that my mom made. In Belize, for those of you who know, we used to drive from Belmopan to Spanish Lookout (where a Mennonite community resides) to find 100% cotton fabrics for my mom’s quilts. While I was watching her quilt, I used to make collages with fabric scraps in my diary.
It is a bit of a shame that I didn't discover my love for sewing until my last year in architecture school. I studied interior design, and I realized that presence of textiles can have a huge impact in modern interiors as well as traditional ones. Perhaps because I grew up with my mom’s country style American quilts, I have a lot of respect for traditional quilts. But as for my creations, in addition to the exploration of traditional patterns, I like to add a bit of modern flair to infuse my personality and keep up with trends in the current design world.
