Smoke Camp Crafts was founded by Dorothy Montgillion in 1978 shortly after she and her husband Robert Montgillion moved to Smoke Camp Road in Weston, WV. She had a lifelong interest in herbs and gardening and was a founding member of the West Virginia Herb Association and held leadership roles in the Master Gardner’s Program and the Central WV Farmer’s Market. She ran the old time apothecary at Fort New Salem and participated in the Jackson’s Mill Jubilee as a crafter for 41 consecutive years. Her signature “Road Kill Jam” reflects her sense of humor and is almost as well-loved as she was, with her perpetually positive attitude and infectious laugh. Kara Vaneck, an apprentice of Dot's, along with several of Dot's family members are keeping Dot's legacy alive by continuing to produce and sell Dot's delicious jams, jellies and teas.
