When I learned how to bind books, I didn't imagine I'd open up an etsy shop. In school, I studied illustration and design. I've always loved to work with my hands and in my spare time I explore different crafts. One day on a whim, I decided to teach myself bookbinding!
I found the precision and rhythm of the bookbinding process meditative, and started making custom journals and sketchbooks for family and friends. It was satisfying to make sketchbooks exactly the way I like them. I especially enjoy creating books in dimensions you can't find in commercial stores! After seeing a request online for locally made sketchbooks, I decided to take my hobby to the next level and started Bound to Be Great Co.
As an artist, the quality of materials and paper I use in my sketchbooks is very important to me. I spend a lot of time researching the materials that I use: What is their background? How are they made? Are they durable? Most of the journals and sketchbooks have are covered with paper made and screen-printed by hand. When I want to have some fun, I take special pleasure in curating and pairing magazine clippings into unique "high style" sketchbook covers. The repurposing the lighting, textures, and colors in magazine photoshoots is always exciting!
If you're interested in a custom sketchbook outside of the listed options- message me! I'll work with you to create something truly one of a kind and 100% you.
