Through CardsForGrandmother, I hope to provide simple, beautiful note cards for thoughtful, handwritten correspondence. In an era of email, text messages, tweets, and IM’s the personal touch of a simple note card means more than ever before.
My photographs come from a deeply rooted awe for nature, inspired by the intersection of color and light. Growing up in Colorado, I attended a Waldorf School that immersed me in the natural world. When I moved to the 'big city' I wanted to send the many new and beautiful things that I encountered back home to share with my family.
Both Grandma Jo on my mom's side of the family, and my Sita (Arabic for grandmother) on my dad's side, praised my personal note cards every time we spoke. Though the phone calls were frequent, they always ohhed and ahhed the most after receiving one of my special Handmade Photo Cards or Printed Paper Note Cards.
When Sita passed in 2010, I found a collection of cards that I had sent to her over the years stashed in her kitchen. Sita always encouraged me to share my photography. She remained one of my only family members to see creative work as a potential career path. I decided to honor her by sharing my artwork and making these cards available for other Grandchildren to send to their Grandmothers.
The simple, elegant designs focus on expressing the beauty of my subjects. I print each picture full across the front of each card, or on photo paper that is then inserted into sculpted corners. The inside always stays blank for your personal thoughts and well wishes.
I look forward to hearing about your grandmothers and I hope they enjoy my CardsForGrandmother.
