Hi! I'm Dan Lewis and I'm an artist living in the small farming town of Downey, Idaho with my wife, our five children, a dog, two ducks, five chickens, two parakeets, and a hedgehog. I'm a lifelong artist who was raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, but I have always been a country boy at heart. I love the mountains and the sound of the birds in our backyard. I spent several years as a full-time freelance artist and illustrator before becoming an art teacher at our local high school.
It might sound kind of corny, but I love to paint personalities, whether they are human, or something with feathers, scales, or fur. I love to paint the spirit of the world around us - Those subtle connections that we can all feel when we walk outside and take a moment to study the clouds or the hillsides, or to look into the eyes of another.
Sometimes when we take the time to be quiet and be still, nature can make us feel so small, and yet part of something greater than ourselves. I love the scripture in Psalm 46:10 - "Be still and know that I am God."
Painting is kind of a way for me to connect with the intangible things in life that might otherwise be indescribable for someone like myself. It allows me to explore, study, and connect with the world around me, while providing a way for me to share my experiences with others.
I first opened this Etsy shop several years ago, when other life priorities required my attention and I let it go by the wayside. I'm happy to be back and hope you'll feel some kind of connection to my work as you look through it. If nothing else, I hope it will be a reminder in a chaotic world that there is always beauty in the simple things around us. We just need to take the time to look, listen, and appreciate it.
Thanks for stopping by. :)
