Oh my. I've only been crafting for a few years but I can make even a few years sound like a few decades of history.
It all started back on Okinawa when I was a little one maybe 9 years old. My mother was very interested in crochet, embroidery, cross-stitch and sewing at the time and being a little kid, I was interested in what my mom was doing. Then, my mom taught me how to chain, single crochet and double-crochet. Back then, I tried to make myself a finger-less glove that didn't look or fit like a glove. Later, I stuffed it with cotton balls, closed it and called it a turkey doll though it didn't look anything like a turkey. After that, I never picked up a crochet hook until I was an adult.
When my husband and I finally moved into our first apartment he was getting ready to deploy and got me a dog. Dog training quickly became my favorite activity and while it's still a close second, crafting soon took its place. While I was shopping for things for our new home with my husband, he told me I needed a hobby so I picked up a set of plastic Susan Bates crochet hooks and a skein of Claret Red Heart Super Saver (the same color as my first ever crochet project) and got started on trying to remember how to double crochet. A scarf for my husband is my first adult project and suddenly I was on fire. I made a bone toy for my dog Taiko that lasted until we got a teething puppy and I've been working with yarn since. Crochet was exciting and I tried my best to better myself but I became interested in knitting and taught myself with the help of books and the internet. My first knitted scarf soon followed and since then I've been trying to better myself to the point that I felt comfortable selling my handmades.
