The best way to limit our impact on the planet is to buy second-hand and this applies to yarn, too. By using recycled yarn from reclaimed sweaters, we create no harmful environmental effects from the production, synthetic dying, and shipment of new yarn across the world.

I have resolved to live as sustainably as I possibly can, reducing, reusing, and recycling in every aspect of my life. The more I learn about the harmful environmental effects of the textile industry, the more I want to to counter it. But, as every yarn-obsessed person knows, giving up yarn is not an option!

A More Sustainable Process: I collect second-hand sweaters from local thrift shops where the purchase helps support charity. I choose only the softest sweaters, unravel them, skein them, wash the skeins in baby shampoo, hang them unweighted to dry, and then wind them into balls. Sustainability is taken into consideration in every step of the way, from the post-consumer recycled paper tags, to the reusable recycled poly mailers in which each order is sent out. Don’t lose it! Reuse it!
