I have always been drawn to jewelry and anything that is colorful, glitters, or sparkles. While looking at jewelry, I often found myself wishing that the designer had made the piece "just a little bit differently," i.e. used a different stone, made the piece smaller/larger, used a different metal, and so on until I had an epiphany, of sorts, that maybe I could create my own piece using whatever materials I wanted. I took a beginning wire class and Susan Klekar Designs began. My youngest daughter, Amanda, who has always had a flair for fashion and color, is my partner. I am so thankful to be able to share our creative outlet in our Etsy shop.

Amanda and I love nothing more than searching, sometimes hours at a time, for the best quality and rarest gemstones and findings with which to create our pieces. We use hard-to-find gemstones, combined with different textures and finishes, in our pieces because we feel that it sets our designs apart. We use sterling silver, pure copper, pure brass, bronze, and 14kt gold, but we usually opt for using gold vermeil, sterling silver with an overlay of 18kt to 24kt gold, because of its affordability. Although some of our creations are similar, no one piece is exactly the same.
