"Wow!" That's what I hear the first time people see dragonware. Dragonware is hand-decorated pottery made in Japan from about 1880 to the present day. The older Nippon era pieces tend to have more detail and can be exquisite and valuable. Enthusiasts have a wide variety of pieces to collect because dragonware was made by many potteries, so the pieces vary in shape, color and quality. The defining characteristic of dragonware is the hand-painted, raised dragon that can be moriage, which is matte and looks like cake frosting, or enamel glazes, which are shiny.
