Trying to find a suitable name for my jewelry business was not an easy task. As a self-taught artist with over twenty years of experience making jewelry, it was a challenge to come up with just the right name. I wanted one that conveyed the essence of my creations, yet was simple and easy to remember. My “aha” moment occurred as I listened to a friend describe a necklace I was wearing. She felt that the twisting and turning of the design allowed the necklace to flow, as if it was moving, and she was right. It was no longer just “wire”, but rather something more, something special and beautiful. It was as if the wire had come alive. At that moment, so did the name of my business, as it became alivewire!
I love creating things, and making jewelry allows me to work with many different materials and techniques. The tools and components are small, so I can port my projects with me when needed. Who doesn’t enjoy stringing beads while lounging on the beach? When it’s necessary to travel out of town, I enjoy visiting local bead shops and rarely return home without a new stash of treasures.
Working with wire is fun and challenging. Many times I end up with a slightly different design than I intended, as the wire often guides me in a new direction. That’s another reason why alivewire is the perfect name!
My studio is my “happy place” with its bright colors, pictures and trinkets of treasured items in every corner. Two large, open metal shelves are home to boxes of beads, books, ribbons, and an assortment of other necessary supplies. My main workstation is a black desk with a large surface that allows me to keep all of my frequently used tools within close reach. When I step into the studio and turn on my favorite music, the creative juices start pouring out.
If you’re passionate about something, that passion oftentimes is contagious. Each of my sisters has taken an interest in jewelry making over the years. The joy is now spreading to the next generation, as my nieces are starting to make jewelry too!
All alivewire jewelry is hand crafted by me, and no two pieces are the same. I primarily use pure copper, galvanized steel, annealed steel, and brass wire. The beads consist of an array of semiprecious stones, natural and glass pearls, crystals, and glass beads.
I truly appreciate your taking the time to visit my shop and I hope you stop back again, and again.
