The sketch is made on the smoothly sanded wood carving.
After the batik wax heated, I start the drawing process using batik pen (tjanting).
This is how the wood carvings look after the initial wax drawing is done. The next step is the coloring process.
This is how the pieces look after the several times coloring process and boiling process to remove the wax.

From cultural heritage and passion turn into business

The city where I live, Jogjakarta, has been well known as the place where batik tradition has a strong root so batik is one of the identities of my city. I learned how to do batik process on fabrics a long time ago when I was still in junior high school. I did not deal with batik again until the time I was working as the marketing staff for an exporting company. I was assigned to accompany a customer to look for an export commodity that is unique in nature and has cultural content.
I visited some artisans in my city and I found artisan who do batik on wood instead of on fabrics like normally it is. I suddenly fell in love with this kind of crafts. However, I noticed that the artisan wood batik products were still lacking of quality and innovation in term of patterns, colors and finish process. Strongly inspired, I made up my mind to relearn and to increase my skills in doing batik on wood. Later on, in 2005, I decided to quit from my formal job and to start up my own wood batik business. With the full support of my wife I started my business from the scratch. Business is tough but I always try to keep my spirit and determination high. Until now, I still do the batik process my self. In addition to wood batik, I also develop more products to be listed in my shop.
