Welcome to Hermit Grub! Our shop provides a wide variety of nutritious food for your hermit crabs. Hermit Crabs are scavengers and omnivorous which means they eat meat and plants and like to search for their food. There are four main food categories that are important for your crab.

CALCIUM makes up around 20% of diet and is vital for your hermit crabs exoskeleton health. Calcium should be available 24/7. After a molt, your crab needs high quality calcium like oyster shell, calcium carbonate, eggshell, cuttlebone, etc to regrow a new exoskeleton.

PROTEIN (meats, seeds, nuts, grains) makes up around 25% of a hermit crabs diet. Protein provides essential amino acids and the building blocks necessary for a healthy body. Protein can be split into two categories, Meat Protein and Seeds, Nuts & Grains Protein. Protein should be available 7 days a week. Examples of meat proteins - chicken, beef, plankton, red shrimp, crayfish, etc. Examples of seeds, nuts & grains proteins - quinoa puffs, walnuts, chia seeds, whole grain oats, blue cornmeal, etc.

TERRESTRIAL & AQUATIC PLANT LITTER makes up 40% of a hermit crabs diet and should be available in their tank 7 days a week. Hermit crabs come across a wide variety of foods in nature so it’s important to replicate that in their tank. Examples of Terrestrial Plant Litter would be leaf litter, tree bark, flower petals, plant roots, etc. Examples of Aquatic Plant Litter include many types of seaweed like kelp, bladderwrack, nori or wakame.

FRUITS & VEGGIES makes up 15% of a hermit crabs diet and should be organic, pesticide and chemical free like carrots, apples, strawberries, sweet potato, tomato, mango, etc. Fruits & Veggies are full of the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants needed to keep your hermit crabs in top shape.

Hermit Crabs are tiny and need small servings. When deciding how much to give them, keep in mind the number of hermit crab's you have, what you're giving them and their personal eating habits.

Hermit Crab's are scavengers and enjoy searching for their food. Try offering a few seashells with their favorite foods, placed in different spots around your tank. Sprinkle green sand, worm castings, terrestrial plant litter and seeds directly in the tank to stimulate and nourish your hermit crabs.
