LaLauLand began in Norfolk, Virginia in December of 2011 as we celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary. Norfolk is teeming with inspiring people and places -- I sincerely hope we get to return someday. I was creative from childhood, falling hard for anything I could craft, draw, color, or write. I advanced quickly, though I never pursued making it a business until 2011.
Today, I reside in beautiful Hickory, North Carolina in the US with my husband and our four loving pets. Here my wanderlust has subsided for a bit, as we bask in the radiant community surrounded by distant - though not unseen - mountains. It is a busy city, and so creative with focus on the arts and furniture-making. I work from home, seated or standing wherever I wish, composing blog posts and working with jewelry, or crocheted pieces.
My work mirrors the simplicity of a rural life saturated in dreams of elegant extravagances. Each project speaks to some fragment of my life thus far. Moves and travels have taken me North to Canada and across it, to Norfolk, Virginia, and throughout the Southeastern US. These experiences and their memories bespeak the moment which rests between the city and the suburbs, poverty and success, child's play and maturity. The copper jewelry chains remind me of the beauty of forests and gardens. Crocheted scarves and pet toys take me back to days long ago when every woman crocheted her entire family's winter wear. Or the afternoons filled with laughter as I craft with friends at a local yarn shop. Mixed metals are the flexibility and hardness of life, no matter the chosen path. Beads are fragments of stained glass, glittering in the sunlight... But there is also a comfort -- a warm place with soft, cool breezes to snuggle in with a favorite book and while away the day.
I use good quality materials, furnishing enduring products which are affordable. The magic and ease of creativity is my passion; particularly in the knowledge that I am enticing the joy and smiles of others. History was once stories passed down through generations. My shop, my products... they're my history. My story. A chapter to be shared with -- or perhaps, even written just for you.
I share more of my life, DIY's, favorite recipes, creative activities, minimalism journey, organization tips, and more via my blog {http://lalauland.tumblr.com}. Stop in for a visit, sometime.
