I have been a potter for more than a decade, and although I like making many types of pottery, I just can't help but go back to basics - I love mugs.

They are the ideal example of functional pottery. They look beautiful on your shelf or hanging on a hook in your kitchen, and no one else has one quite like yours. But they're not just pretty. They serve a daily function in your life, if you drink coffee or tea or another mug-friendly beverage. First thing in the morning, I reach for my mug.

So, I'm always trying to make the perfect one. It's about the mug's weight, the way the handle feels in your hand and how the thumb rest seems like it was made especially for your thumb. It's about how the glaze is just the right amount of shiny or matte and the color is your favorite, or it fits your kitchen's color scheme, or lack thereof.
