I can't remember a time when I wasn't making something. The first necklace I made was out of appleseeds when I was nine. I had the entire family eating apples, just to collect the seeds! Since the 1990's, I started collecting vintage jewelry when I was 19. (I am now parting with most of the pieces at my other etsy shop - mollismuse. I have been designing jewelry since the 1990's.) It all began with a necklace that I made for myself, as is often the case with many designers.
My education includes fine art and traditional metalsmith classes including enameling. I am inspired by modern architecture, sculpture and textures that are everywhere around me. I also have a great love of mid-century modern.
My style is contemporary that can be raw, yet refined. Simple lines can have a complexity on their own. I work mainly with fine silver, sterling, copper and bronze. I love starting with an idea and letting it go in a different direction than the original plan. Pieces may have other materials such as beads and wirework. I still have a wonderful collection of beads, many which are ancient or vintage. They may be incorporated in a modern way.
Pieces are one of a kind. There may be similarities with a twist. Your piece is truly yours. Each piece is hand crafted in Molli Koltun's studio.
Work has been shown in art galleries in San Diego, California, North Carolina and Tennessee.
