Small farms and small businesses make the world a better place. Small farms allow you to meet your farmer in person and see who is growing and raising the meats and produce your family loves. It gives you the opportunity to ask questions about each farmers practices and find ones who meet your own family needs. By having the opportunity to talk to your farmer about the foods you love you and your family can achieve a better understanding about eating seasonally, eating foods that are at their peak of ripeness and flavor, as well as discovering new and delicious foods that you have never tried or heard of before. Being able to learn what practices the farmer uses when growing and raising the meats and produce you desire for your family allows you make decisions about what goes onto your plate, do you prefer organic then find an organic producer, are you unsure about what chemicals are being used ask and then decide for yourself if what is being used fits what you feel is ideal. If not then you can easily chose another farmer until you find the perfect fit. You don't have any of these options when you purchase mass produced in large commercial farms, many of which are in other countries, where you have no say in what in going on and in them.
The same can be said for small businesses they allow for greater opportunities to meet and talk to the owners and manufactures of the products you want the most. Money spent on small businesses oftentimes remains in your local economy thus creating a thriving and growing marketplace, bettering schools, hospitals, and local government structures. You can talk to shop owners and find out more about their products first hand. Customer service is much better as many shop owners want to hear form their customers to better improve their products, find things they love, and know their customers are happy with their products.
