We have 3 roman shade systems-

Corded- most affordable. like standard blinds, cord runs behind the shade and you operate the shade by pulling on the cord on back side of shade and it locks into place. Easy to install by drilling 2 screws through the wood and into your casing or wall/trim. Most people select this option. Pricing starts at $85 per shade for labor. The cords used to pull the shade up and down run along the back and if you'd like to hide them when the shade is up, you can simply tuck the cords into one of the back folds so you do not see the cords. The shade is attached to a wooden board on top and the board is about 1 1/2" deep for inside mount and 3/4" deep for outside mount. This is the best option for outside mounted shades, due to the small projection.

Continuous Cord- System has a clutch/aluminum tube roller on top. The wood is about 1 3/4-2" deep. The shade operates by pulling on the chain that runs down one side on the back. We can provide steel/silver chain or white plastic and possibly other colors. This option will start at $160 per shade for labor. This can be used for inside or outside mount shade, but keep in mind, it will be a bit of a larger projection for the outside mounted shades than corded.

Cordless- Similar to the continuous chain system. Uses a aluminum roller. We have 2 styles. Rollease or Coulisse. The board on top is about 1 3/4" deep for our Rollease system and 2 1/4" deep for the Coulisse. The shade operates by pulling on a knob that is located on the backside/ bottom of the shade. It stops at the different positions by pulling on the knob to lock it into place. You can make adjustments to the tension and stop positions. This is a bit tricker to install and adjust than our corded and continuous chain. The difference between the 2 cordless systems is that the Rollease is a smaller projection and uses white metal end brackets. The Coulisse uses white plastic end caps that are a bit more attractive than the metal ones. Both operate similarly but the Rollease starts at $185 per shade. The Coulisse is $200 per shade for labor.

We also offer rod pocket corded shades and faux shades (no cords at all, shades just for looks)

Minimal pin holes of light shining through. No rings sewn through to face fabric.
We don't use rings on our flat/classic shades, so no ugly pin holes of light shining through!

Please read policies before purchasing. polices can also be found at sewlovelybykelly/purchaseagreement . Fabric choice is VERY important and I'm always happy to help if you want to send me links before purchasing your fabric. A lot of lighter weight linens, silky and heavy fabrics do not work well for roman shades (see below).

I can provide fabric (for sale on my website) or you can send me yours directly from any website.

Please click on “listing details” under the item title, overview and materials to see much more information about the item, including a quote form.

We do discounts for large roman shade orders! Note that very large orders (over 10) have a slightly longer timeframe.

CUSTOM LISTING

Friendly reminder to all customers... when we create a custom listing for you on Etsy we include all of the details for your item. Width x length etc. we read a ton of messages each day and do a lot of quoting. To protect ourselves as a seller, we base our final measurements on the listing details. By purchasing the listing, the buyer is confirming details and sizing. If there needs to be an update to this, please let us know the listing is incorrect and to update the details. If this isn’t communicated, and there was to be an update, we risk the chance of making the shade the incorrect size. To see the details of your order be sure to click on the description/details (under the title). We cannot provide refunds or free adjustments If the buyer did not make us aware that something needed to be changed on the custom listing and we weren’t alerted. Thank you for understanding.

TIME FRAME
Our time frame is not the shortest because we thankfully have a TON of orders coming in :) So while it does not take 8 week to actually make the shade, there is about a 8 week time frame right now due to a ton of orders in line our production schedule. We do orders in order of when the customer purchases the listing. I do my best to get the orders out quickly and efficiently. I assure you you will get a beautiful custom product and it's worth the wait! :) As with many other custom items on the market (furniture etc) there is usually a wait for custom goods, especially when the demand is high and the price point is good. I will keep you updated on the progress as I go. Sew Lovely is a small business. Exact dates cannot be guaranteed (exact date that you will receive the shade). If you need to receive the item on an exact date, please email me before purchasing.

NEWLY ADDED: You can check the status of your order (when it's nearing its due date) at sewlovelybykelly.com/production

RETURNS
Since they are custom items, all sales are final. No refunds will be given. If ever an issue with fitting or size etc, I can easily fix if you send the shades back. Please read the fabric recommendations carefully, as sending the wrong type of fabric can affect the finished product. If you're unhappy with anything, I can fix it to your liking. Please let me know within 10 days if you need a fix. If the shade needs a fix due to giving me the wrong size initially, there will be a fee to fix the shade and shipping charges. If ever a part were to break on the shade, within 2 years, we can usually send you the part free of charge.

SHIPPING
All items are shipped UPS Ground. Tracking will be given on your order once the item ships. You should be able to track your package on Etsy under "Purchases." If ever your package were to be lost in transit, the insurance will cover the labor and shipping for the shades only and an average estimated cost for fabric. We cannot cover anymore than the amount you actually paid on your Etsy order. So if we did not supply the fabric, your fabric cost is not covered under the
insurance.

FABRIC CHOICE

The best fabric for Roman shades is medium weight, 100% cotton screen printed on canvas/duck. Most photos in my shop use this material. It pleats the best.

I can provide the fabric if you prefer not to send your own! Please check out my website for my fabric options. All of the fabrics for sale are good for roman shades.
sewlovelybykelly.com/fabric

Please send appropriate roman shade fabric. IF YOUR FABRIC IS SENT TO ME WITHOUT YOUR NAME UNDER MY NAME, YOUR ORDER MIGHT GET DELAYED, AS I WILL HAVE TO TRACK DOWN WHOSE FABRIC IT IS. A medium weight fabric that is from 7-9oz in weight is usually good. A similar weight and fiber content to most store bought drapes is usually good (basic cotton/drapery). I prefer customers send me their own fabric, rather than me choose it, just to be certain it's exactly what the customer wants (this includes solid white shade fabric)

Most light weight linen, silk, burlap, sheer, satin, light weight fabric do not work well for roman shades, as they hang looser and do not pleat as well. Quilting fabric doesn't work well, as it is too thin. If you're using linen, please make sure it is at least 12 oz in weight or a linen blend. We do not like to work with a lot of 100% linens or loose weave linens (somewhat sheer). Some linen fabric will be a little floppy and less defined. 100% Linen also does not sew as well as other fabrics, so the edges may not be as defined and wrinkles too easily. Linen may hang differently in two different homes due to the humidity and environment and also shrinks up at times. If sending linen you may wish to also send interlining so the shade pleats better. We recommend linen blends. We have a nice white linen blend on our website, sewlovelybykelly.com/fabric
Blends usually work well. Read more about why you shouldn't send lighter weight fabrics here- http://www.sewlovelybykelly.com/blog/2019/5/14/liner-why-its-needed-amp-why-we-dont-recommend-light-weight-fabrics-for-shades

Heavy weight upholstery fabric like chenille and velvet do not work as well either.

Dowels may shine though slightly if your fabric is on the thinner side or a light color.

Wide shades over 64" wide, do not hang as nicely some times. The folds may not be as defined as our shades under this width. If you have a wide window, over 70", we recommend splitting it into 2 shades so that the folds are nicer and the shade is easily to pull up and down.

To avoid cords hanging down when the shade is pulled up, you may easily tuck the cords into any fold on the backside so they are not seen from the front.

Please email me if you see fabric you like in any of my photos. You can also find great fabric online. Fabric.com and many other shops.

Please be aware that there are certain times that I may need you to send me additional fabric, more than your original quote (ie. if they pattern repeat is too large and I can't match the shades up, or if too little fabric was sent etc) This will be at the buyer's cost for the extra fabric needed.

Please send me the yardage on a continous roll and not in cut pieces. We often do not roll out the yardage until we are about to start your project.

If needing white shades you can always purchase white curtains to use for your shades.

Please do not send me much more fabric than what I quoted you to send if you want the excess returned back to you. If you send the amount requested, there will not be any left over. I calculate the shipping for your shades based on the weight of just your shades and not any excess fabric being returned. Left over fabric will not be sent with your shade. Please send fabric on one continuous roll and not cut yardage.

****IMPORTANT****
You will get the address where to ship your fabric to (my address) once the order is purchased via an automated Etsy message. Please do not ship the fabric so that a signature is regquired upon delivery, as I am not home all day to sign for it.

GROSGRAIN RIBBON TRIMMED SHADES
I often make these lovely grosgrain ribbon shades (similar to the popular Pottery Barn style ones. They have ribbon down the sides and along the bottom. I can provide the ribbon for them in many basic colors. As of January 2017, I no longer glue the ribbon down, rather I sew it down to provide more security and a neater appearance.

WHERE TO BUY YOUR RIBBON

I can supply basic colors in 1 1/2" wide grosgrain ribbon or you may provide.
1.5" - 3" grosgrain works best. Non-wired/ no cording or piping. There are a lot of great places online and stores like Michaels, AC Moore and Hobby Lobby.
Etsy has a ton of nice trim shops!
buyfabrics.com and hobby lobby have great braided and Greek Key Trim
This site has beautiful trims-
https://www.fabricresource.com/trim-tassels/tape-trim

CUSTOM WINDOW TREATMENTS VS STORE BOUGHT
The beauty of custom window treatments is that you can have them made in any size you'd like. Most stores only carry standard sizes and every window is very different, especially in older homes. Sew Lovely custom shades are made to fit your particular window. Also, you can send me your own fabric to match your decor! Most stores only carry a few fabric choices.

EVERY FABRIC WILL HANG A LITTLE DIFFERENT
It's important to know that every shade will look a little different when hung up, depending on the fabric you use and the size of your window (amount of pleats and top pleat placement etc). Also, fabric will shift a little (stretch) with certain temperatures and conditions. Gravity will also affect fabric that is hanging vertically. I make the shade as accurate as possible when it is cut on a flat surface. There might be a slight shift, depending on the fabric. Linen is tough to work with and is my least favorite fabric to use. It does not pleat well and hangs very loose. It also shifts a lot in the sewing machine and it's hard to make defined edges using linen. Please use caution when picking linen for your shade. Linen blends do work a little better. Bigduckcanvas.com has a linen/cotton vintage fabric and a linen/rayon blend. Also Robert Allen Linen Slub blended linen works better, but still not as good another fabrics. Each shade will pleat a little different. If your window is really long, you will have more pleats. Every shade will stack a little different at the top, depending on size of the windo.

CLASSIC ROMAN SHADES AND RELAXED ROMANS
Most of the shades I do are flat/classic pleated roman shades. They will lay flat on the window when down and form pleats when pulled up. The pleats are around 7 inches each. They have dowels inside them to make the pleats more defined. Sometimes when the light shines through, you may see the dowels. Relaxed roman shades do not have dowels throughout the shades like the flat shades. They do not have a curved bottom like some relaxed shades do and will be more straight across on the bottom but hang loosely. Relaxed shades are best if you don’t intend to raise and lower them often. They will most always need to be manually pleated into place. When you raise them, the pleats don’t fall perfectly into place unless you manipulate them a bit. The 1x2 inch board on top will be wrapped around to the back with the front face fabric. Face fabric wraps around about 1-2" on the back side of the shade along the borders. The cordless shades may project more than corded shades.

LINING FABRIC
Lining is WHITE on the back of the shades. I can also make the shades to have liner PLUS the face fabric on the back, if you wanted the back to have the same fabric as the front. Every shade needs one because the dowels are hidden between the liner and the face fabric. The liner also protects the shade from sun damage. If you prefer to buy it and ship along with your fabric, that is great. I can also tack it on to a custom listing for you. Regular liner lets some light shines through but also filters the light and diffuses some light. If your fabric is rather thick the regular liner will work nicely and filter out a lot of the light, so blackout may not be needed. If you have a medium weight fabric and want to block out the light completely, blackout liner may be the best option. Dowels may shine though slightly if your fabric is on the thinner side or a light color. Face fabric wraps around about 1-2" on the back side of the shade and borders the shade in the back.

IMPORTANT INFO REGARDING BLACKOUT SHADES

For more blackout coverage, inside mount shades are recommended. Shades with blackout liner my have some minor light bleeding through where the stiching is along the sides. It is only seen when light shines directly through (pin holes). This is unavoidable and a common thing for any blackout shade. As of March 2017, I figured out a way to patch the pin holes, to perfect the shade's apperance!

HOW TO MEASURE FOR INSIDE AND OUTSIDE ROMAN SHADES
http://www.sewlovelybykelly.com/measuringromanshades

INSTALLATION
sewlovelybykelly.com/installation
Hardware included. Brackets not needed. Our shades are very easy to install. Cordless shades are a little more difficult and might require a handyman or installer.

L brackets and flat brackets optional (purchased at most hardware stores) L brackets for inside mounts and flat brackets for outside mounts. Installation instructions can be found on my website:
http://www.sewlovelybykelly.com/installation
The top board is about 3/4" x 1 1/2" For outside mount the wood projects just under 1" . For inside mounted shades, the depth of the top board is about 1 1/2"

CHILD SAFETY
My corded roman shades all come with 3 cords on the back and down the one side. We also make cordless shades, faux shades and child proof upgraded shades. Email us for info. You may wish to buy a cleat to tie off your cords up high if you have small children or pets around. These can be found on places like amazon and are inexpensive.

Check out our new linen blends, Flax, slub and beautiful canvas!!

http://www.sewlovelybykelly.com/fabric

IF YOUR FABRIC IS SENT TO ME WITHOUT YOUR NAME UNDER MY NAME, YOUR ORDER MIGHT GET DELAYED, AS I WILL HAVE TO TRACK DOWN WHOSE FABRIC IT IS.

These can be found on places like amazon and are inexpensive.

yes!

Why is the timeframe so long?

We are a small business and handmade, custom products on the market like window treatments, furniture etc usually do have a longer time frame than store bought. Sewing and constructing shades takes mental sharpness and physical labor, so we never want to rush orders and we make about 30 shades each week. Our ladies work very hard and long hours to complete orders in our 6-8 wk timeframe. If we didn't a good end product, there would not be a wait or a demand for our product :) Also we hire only the highly experienced seamstresses to work for us. We currently have 2 amazing seamstresses and myself (Kelly) constructing the shades.

Are the roman shades fully functional? How do I measure?

yes they are fully functional! I have measuring pictures and instructions on my website, sewlovelybykelly.com
