I am sorry the packaging was a challenge. All watercolors are inserted in a plastic sleeve and then rolled and taped to prevent unfurling and damage to outside edge of the painting. Scissors are required to cut through the tape holding the roll closed. Removing tape without scissors to cut the tape is not recommended.
