Hi, I'm Bri, and I'm so pleased to see you at Under the Tapestry!
I loved to constantly play around with crafting items when I was younger. Foam stickers, crayons, and glitter were a delight, and even the rocks in my Grandma's driveway were colored. When I was 7 years old, our neighbor invited me over to show me how to knit. The days spent in her living room, learning to knit before we played with marbles, puppets and kitchen set dishes with my younger sister, made precious memories. She also taught Mama to sew, and Mama has trained me in that area as well.
Over the next several years, I continued to make things out of string. My Mama's vacuum was constantly an array of colors, thanks to the yarn ends that were always on my bedroom and the living room floors. I taught myself to crochet with some pointers from a friend, and my parents got me a tatting shuttle and an instruction dvd for my 14th birthday. Learning to tat was super exciting, especially when I learned that my Great-great-grandma also tatted, and I got a tatting shuttle that was over 75 years old (I kind of love history and am a bit sentimental). Quilling joined the ranks of my crafts after an afternoon spent figuring out all the best tips I could from, of course, Pinterest, in 2014 :).
I gave my projects as gifts, and to help with fundraisers and ministries. I was able to send hats to a ministry for preemies; My entire family worked together to send in handcrafted items to an online auction to raise money to help fund orphans home; and I had a tatting table at my Dad's store's fifth year anniversary to raise money to help a local family adopt. Adoption is also very close to my heart, so these things were as much a blessing to me as they could have been to the family, and I was so thankful for the opportunities that the Lord placed in my path.
August 10th, 2015, my Daddy sat down with me and helped me figure out all the technicalities of setting it up my Etsy shop, something I'd talked about doing for awhile, but was a little afraid of figuring out. I am thrilled to have taken that step, and am glad to have another reason to enjoy crafting :). My baby items, word art pieces, kitchen towels, bookmarks, and other listings, are all made with the hopes that these items will be the prefect functional, decorative, and meaningful gift for someone you love, which is also why I want to customize anything I can for you, so that each gift is as special as the person who will receive it -just let me know what you are looking for! If you have any questions after reading item descriptions and my shop policies, don't hesitate to ask, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
"Under the Tapestry" does not actually sell tapestries, so why did I choose this name? It was inspired by the poem "The Master Weaver's Hand". I love the beauty of how my Lord and Savior plans everything to His own glory, and how even when we may only see the mess of "the under side" of the cloth, our sinful hearts and nature, He is using even this to create a beautiful picture of His Righteous knowledge and nature. Since "tapestry" can also signify many diverse "threads", or things, coming together to make a whole, I thought this was fitting for my shop.
