Wild Bergamot Hand crafts

Marshall, North Carolina

Announcement    Hand crafted items for the wild in us all. I love to work with my hands in many mediums from wool to metal, deer hides to pottery, wood to invasive vines so you will find different sorts of creations. everything is made by my hands, without the use of electricity or chemicals. With all the things i create i try to have a ground up approach. So that means, harvesting or preparing as many as the materials as possible by hand.
I am especially excited about incorporating a wide variety of materials and styles. Such as using a traditional material, like braintan buckskin, but using styles or a variety of embellishments that would be non traditional and bring the piece into the present.
All of my hides are either from hunters and would otherwise be a "waste product" or are found from roadkill animals killed by cars. I greatly value these animals lives and try to honor them as i best know in the process. I tan all the hides myself without the use of chemicals or artificial preservatives. All the hides are scraped and softened by my own hands in the ancient way that traditional people all around the world have been doing for time immemorial. I use natural oils such as brains, eggs, or animal oils in the softening and occasionally locally harvested bark for vegetable tanning.
I appreciate things that are durable, useful, and add aesthetic beauty to the beholders life. I am a fourth generation irish-style crochet lace maker and i am honored to be carrying this tradition forward. I find that any item can be transformed into a cherished heirloom with the addition of a handcrafted edging.
Please check back as i will be adding to the listing as new things fly off my fingers. Also, i love making things with a person in mind so if you have an idea of something you would want- just contact me and we can work it out!

I love these sweet handmade medicine pouches. My boyfriend bought one from Maranda about 2.5 years ago. We put three different crystals in it and he’s worn it pretty much every day since then. Since it’s made from natural materials (animal hides), eventually a small hole was made in the back from one of the stones. The pouch still looks great, with the leather hugging the stones, and so many memories & dances embedded into it. 2.5 years of daily use, always worn under his shirt, skin on skin, is a really good run. I decided to get him another one for Christmas this year, put some new stones in it, & create some new medicine memories. This new pouch is just as awesome as the first, slightly bigger, super soft, and well made. Maranda makes stunning art & she takes the time with each and every step of the way.
