Barack Obama had been "leading" on Etsy for a while! We've noticed so many artists and crafters pouring their hearts into handmade expressions of grassroots support. Over at flickr, folks are posting their homemade messages for Mr. President Elect. What's your flickr message to Obama?

It's still all so new, amazing, and exciting. And the response from the international community is truly heartwarming. And well, hopeful. Yay!

Hooray!! I've had a smile plastered on my face since tuesday night!

Would we have gotten an article like this if McCain had won?
Anyway, look out for some Pro-Life items in my shop very soon.

It's truly amazing and wonderful that we have Mr. Obama as our new President!

I voted for John McCain, but if Obama was willing to protect and defend the unborn children and he and McCain traded views on the issues I would have been the first to vote for Obama. Hopefully now that Obama is the victor he will realize that a leader does not have to have everyone's support and will keep those who take the lives of unborn children to put a dollar in their pockets away from taxpayers money.

Yep...I even dressed a set of my beads in red and black in honor of the new first couple.
kateblack
I'm glad to have a pro-choice president, who recognizes women's value.
gingercardco
I dig the doggie sweater.
And I'm with you Kate. I loved your buttons!! GObama!!!
Perhaps someone on Etsy has some cool sex-education materials since we can come back to the 21st Century starting in January. It's amazing what you can find on Etsy, so I bet it's out there...

I think I can hear the sound of America breathing again.

The majority has spoken loud & clear! Now let's all get together and fix the mess we're in! Yes we can! Yes we can!
pogoshop
They sold on election night, but check out the Barack, Michelle, Malia, and Sasha pogos in pogoshop's sold items. Wish I knew how to get a similar set to the little Obama girls!
I can't wait to watch the Obamas dance at the Inaugural Ball and see the new first family in the White House. Joy, joy, joy - there's so much to look forward to!
babypeasandcarrots
I never even cared about the elections until Obama ran for president. I'm so glad he won!

What a true relief &&&& HONOR that Obama's in the HOUSE!!!!
YES! (I love all of these picks, btw!)
movetheneedle
great items! I bought those buttons from buttonslol and they are so cute.
babyvagabond
those are all great items. after the 2004 election, I felt so separated from the rest of society, realizing the "majority" of people did not share my beliefs or values. I finally feel like a part of the greater American community again.
those items all display that so well!
saraaires
No doubt, a great week for America, but mostly, a huge step in history for the world! At least, thats what I'm hoping for.
Yes we/ you/ I can!
:D

Thank you to the Storque for putting together this collection of beautiful things with an uplifting message! One of the great things about etsy is sharing thoughts and feelings with artists all over the world and I am so relieved and affirmed to know that so many etsians are celebrating with me!!
modflo
lovely collection...so amazing to be able to witness/participate in this wonderful moment in history.
bluembrownlee
Thank you for including my HOPE ring!! I am so honored to be featured in this wonderful Obama treasury. :-)
bittystarr
freaking AWESOME FP!! We totally baracked the vote. Anyone else feeling patriotic these days?
xoxo

AMAZING!
I JUST MADE A TOTE TO CELEBRATE HIS AND OUR VICTORY!
SmartBird
My message to Obama: Congratulations!
My message to the Storque: Stay out of politics. Approximately half of the people who voted went the other way. Are you trying to alienate half of your potential customers?
ManicManx
Etsy, thank you so much for putting this up. Its beautiful. A nice show of support.
KalliopeBeads
Congratulations President-Elect Barack Obama! Thank you America, you rock!
botanicalbird
Thank you for this show stopper of an FP!! I can't stop smiling!! Congratulations Barack Obama!! the United States & the whole World!! Yeah!! I'm so happy that I don't have to leave the country now!
NaturalAmber
Congratulations to Obama.
I am concerned with this article. I think its great to congratulate but I do agree with SmartBird that maybe the message in this article may not of been nicely geared against those who supported Mccain. It's important to know there were supporters from both sides, both voicing their opinions. Perhaps this should be edited a little to say Obama has been supported by artists on ETSY, over leading.
eviekelley
This is so awesome, I'm only upset I didn't think of it myself- Booties for Barack: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?...
fourtailslampwork
I'm with Natural Amber. I was so happy that I can now say PRESIDENT Obama, but there are a lot of people out there who are not. I think it's fantastic that so many people have celebrated what is truly an historical milestone for all of us. However, the impression I got from the page was that ETSY had taken sides. REtailers do it all the time ...in their campaign contributions. In the stores, however, they remain neutral so as not to offend anyone. Had I been a McCain supporter, this page would have made me feel marginalized.
lrichmond3
Barak ~ I hoped you watched "The Waltons" growing up....cause you are driving us there again!! Good-night John-Boy!
mopsical
Thanks to SmartBird, NaturalAmber, and fourtailslampwork; this kind of article does, indeed, make us feel marginalized.
Please don't make Etsy a political statement, Storque; I love this site and this community, but I don't feel nearly as enthusiastic about supporting it when I see something like this.
naKiMuli
I love PRESIDENT Barack Obama and it warms my heart to see how he inspires all...
chiarashandpainted
A new day has emerged with President Elect Obama and I couldn't be happier and more proud to live in the USA!
deliasthompson
Because Etsy is a collective of individually owned shops I find this thread really inappropriate. Etsy should not and cannot speak regarding the politics of it's individual shop owners. As individuals we should support causes that we are moved by but Etsy as it's own entity should not speak for the entire population regarding religion, politics, etc.
HautTotes
I am thrilled to have a new leader and even if you didn't vote for him (which I most certainly did) this nation should stand behind it's new president!
bjhissong
I just read that this election is more of a fashion statement than a real political election. Obama wouldn't even answer reporters today when they asked if he was going to raise taxes on the top 5%! I agree with others that going political on this website means that you alienate some of your customers... which by the way, buy things. It's not good business and I did not vote for Obama. I wouldn't support a seller who rubs it in my face... I'm for the unborn rights of human beings...male and female. I wouldn't buy anything from someone like kateBlack who is obviously too young to understand that! Keep politics out of this site... I've seen some very rude t-shirts and I'm a huge supporter of Sarah Palin!
MVKnits
It's not political. The election is over. He will be the president. I understand that McCain supporters are hurting, but complaining about this is like complaining if Lincoln were on the front page.
bjhissong
Obviously you are one of those people who don't understand politics. And guess what... he will have to be elected again in four years. Oh that's right... you don't follow politics.
Phoenix
Great article (and great art!). I bought an adorable Obama-y print on Etsy and I'm completely in love with it! Check out bendutro.etsy.com.

You alienate future business when you share your views on politics. I am really struggling, I absolutely love, love ETSY/ But right now, I am thinking maybe I should take my business elsewhere.
owleyesvintage
thank you everyone for making your voice heard! i feel like a born again american!! let's come together and heal this country now?!
CharlieErnestNErise
Yay for Obama! (very nice tattoos also).
Check out my Obama prints!

We've noticed many sellers listing Obama items and a flurry of sales related to the election. This post is meant to show the activity of sellers on Etsy, not as an endorsement. Our goal at the Storque is to reflect what's going on in the community. Leading up to the election we displayed a balance of items. Now that Obama has won, the community and admin are showing items that people would like to purchase. If McCain had won, I'm sure we all would have done the same, as an expression of current events.
mogwai
I don't honestly see how they'd be alienating anything. This was posted after the election, meaning Barack Obama has now been chosen as our new president-to-be. Etsy posting this doesn't mean they are promoting Obama or that they are not promoting McCain...there's nothing to promote at this point. Like him or not, he's your president now. (Or well, will be soon enough.) Just give him a chance. You might find you actually like him. :)
Anyway, thank you for pointing me in the direction of the Flickr group. I happily added my own addition yesterday. :)

THANK YOU to bjhissong and mopsical for your comments. I feel the same way.
CapeCard
Barack Obama inspired me to create some typographic designs. They are really not in keeping with Cape Card, but since it's my shop, I can do what I want.

I cannot stand behind a man who believes it's ok that 4000 babies are killed a day in America and insults Northwest PA residents

I LOVE Obama! I want a shirt with a pink slip on it for George W. that says 1 20 09!
