Halloween Party Duel: Sweet & Spooky Children's Party

I'm of the mind that Halloween is for kids. I'm too old to dress up (well, I guess I can pull off a crazy wig now and again). It's more fun to spend the evening spooking children (not too much) and delighting in their little squeals. I'd host a backyard Halloween party with nostalgic decor, pumpkin shaped vintage punch bowls, and flickering jack-o-lanterns. Little ones would bob for apples and play pin the tail on the ghost donkey. Moms and dads, aunties and uncles would practically vomit from all the mini cuteness parading around (from that and all the kids' candy we'd be snorphing).

Storque admin Teenangster and Vanessa have faced off to fantasize about two vastly different types of parties, and we want you, our readers, to decide which party you'd rather attend — a sweet and childish party for the kids with plenty of candy and good times for all, or a scary haunted house with dripping blood, spider webs and monsters around every corner! Your comments will decide in this edition of the Party Duel!

Halloween is all about ghosts and hobgoblins gallivanting through the night, scary costumes, monsters and the joy of a good fright. This Halloween, I plan on throwing the most dark and gory bash imaginable! This party would be all about out-doing your fellow guest, with cobwebs scattered about, skeletons dropping from the ceiling, a veritable soundtrack of screams and creaky noises, fake blood, open wounds and all the creepiness that years of watching The X-Files brings. (Extra points if you come as El Chupacabra!)

Halloween only comes once a year, so all bets are off when it comes to giving a scare! Let's run around in the dark and make like ghosts all night long!

Oktoberfest

Get yer beer holsters out, my friends! Oktoberfest celebrations happen all over the world, but the original Bavarian festival, which runs from late September to early October, draws 6 million people to Munich, according to Wikipedia. That's a whole lot of beer.

Bavaria has a certain aesthetic — rustic and colorful — that I love. Plus, Munich is home to my favorite museum in the whole world: the Museum of Hunting and Fishing. München also claims to be the birthplace of wolpertingers — the Black Forest ancestral home of the jackalope.

Fantastical taxidermy and beer? What more could you want?...Well probably a lot of things. You can find some great items by using Shop Local to locate sellers located in Munich.

It's just barely September, but I wake in the middle of the night, having sleep-walked to my closet, daintily fondling my black lace gloves by the light of a drippy candle. How did this kohl find its way round my eyes? From whence are these faux cobwebs in my hair?

All I can do is put Sisters of Mercy on the stereo, gurgle some warm milk (with fake blood), and put myself back to sleep with visions of skeletons jumping over tombstones.
