August 18 (Sunday): Sagtikos Manor Art on the Great Lawn [West Bay Shore, Long Island, New York] (tentative)

The next day, August 18th, I was part of the Sagtikos Manor Art on the Great Lawn event. That was a better day and it was great to see both new and former customers who dropped by!

September 22: West Islip Country Fair. The event, held at the W.I. Library Grounds, corner of Higbie Lane and Montauk Highway, was really fun and very well-attended. The Laughing Potter met some lovely new people (that's you, Patrice!), and reconnected with heart-warming repeat customers who are now friends (that's Gary, Charlene, and Heather!).

THE LAUGHING POTTER was at the Women's Expo on October 3, 2013. The expo is is a showcase and a marketplace for Long Island women entrepreneurs, and there were approximately 75 vendors this year. Had a great time, as always, with both event organizers and attendees being so nice!

I was at the 3rd Galleria Holiday Show at Stony Brook University Hospital on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, on Level 3 of the hospital. It was a pretty good show and 25% of the profits will be donated to relief efforts being made for the victims and survivors of the super typhoon that hit the Philippines in November 2013.
____________________________________

The devastation on parts of Long Island, where I live, has been terrible and heart-wrenching, so this quarter's percentage-of-pottery-sales donation is going to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Furthermore, I'll increase that percentage to 50% instead of 25%, so that I can help more people through my art.

December 2012 Update:
THE LAUGHING POTTER was at the Holiday Bazaar at Stony Brook University Hospital Galeria level on Thursday, December 13, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It was quite successful for me and a lot of folks really loved my mosaic bracelets! My pottery also got compliments and quite a few went for Christmas gifts.

October 2012 Update:
THE LAUGHING POTTER was at the 11th ANNUAL ARTS AND CRAFTS FAIR at Walt Whitman High School, 301 West Hills Road, Huntington Station, NY on Saturday, November 17th! I met several really nice people, but traffic wasn't too good...perhaps because everyone's still recovering from Hurricane Sandy?

THE LAUGHING POTTER was at the EISENHOWER PARK CRAFT & GIFT SHOW located on Hempstead Turnpike and Merrick Avenue East Meadow, on October 13th and 14th, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Turnout was great and I was happy to meet so many friendly people!

The WOMEN'S EXPO at the Middle Country Public Library, 101 Eastwood Blvd., Centereach, NY, on October 4th, was fabulous!
It is a showcase and a marketplace for Long Island women entrepreneurs: artisans, importers, designers and distributors of products such as jewelry, clothing, fine art, pottery and wood/metal/leather/glassware, children’s items, culturally diverse crafts, fiber art, specialty food items, gift baskets, household accessories, paper products and more.
The whole event was organized marvelously and was the least stressful and most pleasant event I've been to. As an artist, I loved that the buyers were very appreciative of my process as well as complimentary about my creations. As a vendor, I relished the more-then-adequate space I was given, as well as the lighting and all the assistance with ferrying my containers in and out of the venue space.

September 2012 Update: The WEST ISLIP COUNTRY FAIR on September 23, 2012, was a great time had by all with hundreds of vendors, thousands of fairgoers, and rocking bands all day!

The LANGE EYLANDT MARKET at the Milleridge Inn, 585 North Broadway Jericho, NY 11753 on September 30th was a less heavily-trafficked event but I was the only potter there and met many really nice folks! This outdoor artisanal food market, comprised of local growers, bakers, and makers of edible miscellania, will now be held every Sunday through the holidays. Check out their Web site at www.langeeylandtmarket.com for schedules and a list of who'll be there each Sunday.

This quarter's etsy.com proceeds were not great, so I decided to factor in revenue from the last two shows' worth of pottery sales to make up the donation to charity. The lucky charity for the third quarter of 2012 is...Long Island Cares!

____________________________________

June Update: The last quarter's 25%-proceeds-donation went to Smile Train, an international charity that provides cleft palate surgery to those in need, as well as providing training to doctors in the region (the description is from their Web site, www.smiletrain.org/). Cleft palate repair seems like such a small thing, but it not only enables a child to eat and speak properly, it also gives him or her the confidence to face the world, get a job, and live a normal, productive life.

New for 2012: Presentation is important! Would you like your item(s) gift wrapped or perhaps you'd like gift wrapping materials that enhance the presentation of your item? Convo me for samples of what I suggest and/or for estimated pricing to giftwrap your purchase! Free giftwrap is available with orders totaling $35.00 and up until February 29, 2012.

I opened my etsy shop early in 2011 and I've met many wonderful folks since then, in person and virtually, who have cheered on my creations as well as my belief that art exists, in part, to help the world. That is why 25% of the proceeds from the sale of my pottery pieces goes to a different charitable organization every three months.

The first check (in September 2011) went to aid the towns around Middleburgh and Schoharie that were devastated by Hurricane Irene. You can see photos of the devastation at:
http://www.timesunion.com/news/slideshow/Irene-strikes-Capital-Region-30568.php

The check for this month will go to the Disaster Relief Division of the Red Cross.

If you have a worthy cause in mind as you're placing an order or even just perusing my site, do convo so I can add it to my list of charities!

When you purchase a piece, you'll get beautiful functional potteryart plus the glow of knowing you did something good.

Here's to helping the world through art!
