The idea that stained glass can transform over time—reflecting multiple hues as the sun moves across the sky until a piece achieves its most dazzling form—is the perfect poetic parallel to Multiple Shapes founder Julieta Hartley's creative journey. After discovering art in kindergarten, Julieta knew she was destined for a creative future, but it wasn't until she took a stained glass class in 2016 that she really saw the light. "I love glass art, I think in part because I've collected crystals since I was a kid, and glass shares a lot of the same qualities," she says. While it remained just a hobby for many years while she worked full-time in the airline industry, Julieta finally got the push she needed to peruse her passion full-time when she was laid off in 2020 amid the pandemic. "I started working every day, all day, and figuring out what I wanted to create," she said. "That's how I came up with my organic shapes mobiles, which was the start of what Multiple Shapes is today." Why Multiple Shapes should be on your radar: Julieta doesn't let traditional stained glass techniques limit her when creating many of her pieces, which is especially evident in her organic shapes collection, including the abstract art suncatcher, the stained glass mobile, and the modern stained glass suncatcher. "Their free-form represents me," she says. "My work breaks the conservative way of doing stained glass and brings this millenary art to the present"—something she attributes to her mom. "She's also an artist, so I grew up being encouraged to explore my creativity thanks to her!"
