Malynature came about during the heart of the CoVid-19 pandemic. At the time I was pregnant with my second child, and when the daycare that my 1st child attended was ordered shut by the government, with immediate effect, I became worried about the prospects for my job. I brought my daughter to work with me on that Monday as I did not have anyone arranged to care for her, and I had obligations at my job, but I knew that this could not be even considered as becoming the norm. However, little did I know that it would not be and that I would be laid off, like 95% of the team I led, that very day! A blessing in disguise? Maybe... I can tell you, at that moment and for weeks later, I was stressed out, worried, and afraid. My husband would remain the sole breadwinner and that terrified me, as we had been partners in covering our bills and taking care of our loved ones, back home in Jamaica for such a long time. When he was also laid off weeks later, I felt the weight of the world heavy on my shoulders. I took a mental and emotional hit!
Long story short, my mom always told me, "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade". I used to laugh each time she said it, as I didn't quite grasp the full meaning of what she meant until March 2020.
Anyhow, I decided to channel my feelings of anxiety and stress, which I believe were heightened by pregnancy hormones, into creativity. I started making soap as I used to work at a spa where natural, handcrafted soaps were sold and I always wished I could make it for myself. Being under quarantine, and in need of an outlet to escape, for the sake of my and our baby's health, it was the perfect time to learn, and so I started my research, coupled that with background knowledge of cosmetics that I already had, and Voila! here we are today.
Now I have my own line of cosmetic products that have been carefully researched, tested and formulated to assist people who need relaxation, a get away and an opportunity to tap into selfcare mode and enjoy wholesome products in their very own home-spa.
When you buy from my shop, you are supporting my passion. You are supporting someone who worked her butt off over the past year to build a business she and her family are proud of, a business that potentially saved her from walking down the dark path of depression while pregnant, a business that was developed and maintained through sleepless nights by a mom determined to be successful, and prove to her children that it can be done; Hard-work and dedication, leads to success.
I have been asked by friends so many times, how do I do it? How do I balance a toddler, a new-born, a husband, a home and a start-up business? When do I sleep?! But what keeps me going is my love for what I do. I can honestly say, I have truly found my passion. I have found the thing that even if no one shops at my store, I would still make products because I absolutely love doing it!
