TOUR BUS BREAKDOWN: a math escape room game for Grades 6 and 7
Six bands share one tour bus, and tonight they play the Sunset Show at Tumbledune. But on the desert highway, beside the golden pyramid, the bus breaks down. Six parts of the bus are six stations. Each station gives a band ONE number. The six numbers find the road across the Last Stretch, and the four-digit restart code gets the bus rolling.

THIS IS A PRINTABLE ESCAPE ROOM GAME for a classroom (4 to 6 teams) or for 1 to 6 students at home. It is not a book and not a worksheet pack: bands move around six stations, write their numbers on a Road Log, and crack one last lock together.

HOW IT PLAYS (60 to 75 minutes, or two shorter lessons)
- Story and warm-up: bands learn the two ideas of the day (work out what a brick is worth; every brick is the two bricks under it added together)
- Six stations, about 6 to 9 minutes each; every band starts at a different one
- The Last Stretch: a pyramid maze. The bus may only roll onto a brick that is worth one of the six station numbers. One road reaches the stage, and the four gold picks on it give the code
- With a wrong station number there is no road, so bands find and fix their own slips
- On the road! Certificates for everyone

TWO LEVELS, ONE ANSWER KEY
- Opening Act cards, Grade 6: a map scale of 1 cm to 5 miles, one-step equations, simple ratios, a percent of a number, the whole from a part
- Headliner cards, Grade 7: two routes to compare on a 2 cm to 15 miles scale, a decimal answer, ratios written as fractions and percents, discounts, tips, tax and percent change, two-step equations with numbers below zero
- Both levels of a station give the SAME number, so mixed classes and split grades play side by side and you check everyone with one key

SEVEN KINDS OF PUZZLE
- 3 kinds of math pyramid puzzle: Coolant Mix (a ratio pyramid: every jug is the two jugs under it poured together), Charge Stack (a percent pyramid: every battery is the two under it added, less what the wires lose) and the Last Stretch (a pyramid maze)
- 4 hands-on puzzles: Road Map (measure the road with a cut-out paper ruler and use the map scale), Gear Train (teeth x turns is the same for gears that mesh: an equation for every gear, with true tooth counts you can check), Price Grid (a cross-number grid of percent clues that check each other; all twelve digits add up to the station number) and Dial It In (six amp knobs: solve an equation, draw the pointer, carry the gold number into the next equation)
- 2 more kinds of math pyramid, the Drum Loop and the Ticket Stack, are in the free bonus folder: 5 kinds of math pyramid puzzle in all
- Stations are numbered from the easiest to the hardest; the Last Stretch is the hardest part
- Every card sits one step below the top of its grade, so a band can finish it together

SKILLS PRACTICED
Ratios and rates, map scale, sharing an amount in a ratio, percent of a number, finding the whole and the percent, discounts, tips, tax and percent change, one-step and two-step equations, operations with numbers below zero. A skills page lists the US Common Core codes for Grade 6 and Grade 7 (a planning guide; not endorsed by the standards' authors).

WHAT YOU GET (instant download, 4 PDF files)
- Full kit, US Letter (39 pages)
- Full kit, A4 (39 pages)
- Projector slides, 16:9 (12 slides: story, mission, the two rules, move signal, countdown, the Last Stretch, on the road, answers)
- Tablet edition with tap-to-jump hint and answer buttons (classroom play needs the printed cards)
- Free bonus folder (QR code inside): Encore (4 fast-finisher cards with answers and hints) and ink-saver editions of every page

INSIDE THE KIT
- For the teacher: what to print and how many (with sheet counts for one level and for a mixed class), a room plan, a 75-minute and a 60-minute plan, a step-by-step script that also works without a projector, skills, a 3-page answer key with solved pictures, 3-step hint cards for every puzzle (where to start, the method, the worked answer)
- For every band: mission page, Road Log with the warm-up and three hint passes, band badges and job cards (Lead Singer, Songwriter, Sound Checker, Roadie)
- For the room: six full-color station signs
- The puzzles: 12 station cards (six stations, two levels), one sheet of paper rulers to cut out, two Last Stretch cards
- Two-up certificates with type-in names

YOU WILL NEED
Printer (color looks best; ink-saver pages are in the bonus folder), paper, scissors, tape, pencils, scrap paper, a clock. 30 to 45 minutes to print and set up the first time; one sheet of paper rulers to cut out. Every band writes on its own cards (or use plastic sleeves and dry-erase pens to save paper).

GOOD TO KNOW
- Digital download only: nothing is shipped.
- Print at 100% (actual size), single-sided. The paper rulers are printed with the maps, so they still match if your printer shrinks the page.
- Play times are plans, not promises: classes differ. Hints keep every band moving.
- Not tested with a class: it was solved and set up from the printed pages alone by separate AI sessions, and their notes were acted on.
- No holiday theme: it suits test-prep review, end of year, back to school, a math club or a party.
- Not suitable for children under 3 (small cut-out parts).
- Love math pyramids? Creouts Publishing also publishes math pyramid puzzle books in paperback (search "Creouts Publishing" on Amazon).
