Hello... my name is Phyllis and I am an award winning jewelry artist living on the beautiful gulf coast of Alabama and Florida. I have been a member of Etsy since 2008, and designing and making jewelry since childhood.
Growing up in a "mom and pop" jewelry business helped prepare me for jewelry designing...and absorbed everything about jewelry from a young age...I have always loved working with people and forging metals. Soon after marrying my husband, we moved to the Blue Ridge mountains of East Tennessee and spent years celebrating the beauty of the wide open spaces and fresh air that the Appalachain trail beheld. I also developed a sincere appreciation for "natural beauty of the rolling mountain ranges ". In recent years ,we have been living on the gorgeous gulf of Mexico. I have always loved the gulf coast with it beautiful white sands and emerald green waters. I take inspiration from the beauty that surrounds me to create lovely jewelry from the jewels of nature. This continues to keep me inspired!
Customer service is ALWAYS important to me..... I learned very early how to make my customers happy and trust in me. I like to take their ideas and make them REAL!
I learned to hand forge metals and design jewelry using a torch and a hammer in my mid thirties. This has been a "first love" of mine for over 25 years. My dad was a old fashioned watchmaker from the 1940s -50s and my mom always ran our family business. I worked by their side until 2001, when my dad died of cancer. I keep their memory alive by creating unusual "steampunk" style art pieces with my father's antique watch collections. I have been selling my designs online since 2006, after closing my retail jewelry store.
My husband is also an award winning artist and he helps me with the creative side in my designs. Re-purposing vintage jewelry , natural gemstones, natural sea glass, as well as beautiful recycled gold and sterling silver metals are some of the elements I like to use. I shape with heat, solder, and often use my fathers' watchmakers hammer to hand forge metals into beautiful adornments to wear.
I love creating beautiful pieces of sculptured jewelry in my studio. Recycled beach sea glass is another media I like to work with.... after it has been naturally tumbled and frosted in the sea and surf. I often combine sea glass to add interest , color and boldness to my designs.
My specialty is custom work and unique pieces. Message me if you would like something personal and special designed for you.
I am a past member of the Artisan Group...currently a member of the Aspiring Metalsmiths Group and Foldforming Metals Groups on Facebook.
I try to be available to discuss your jewelry ideas with you at any time! Just drop me a message .... I am usually busy in my jewelry studio ..... and need a nice distraction!
