Hi, Thanks for taking the time out to read a little bit about me. I'm a very recently retired middle school special education teacher. I will admit, the past few years, of the 34 that I taught, have been tiring and I haven’t been able to put the energy needed into work, grandchildren and creating. Now it is time to find that part of me once again.
A LITTLE HISTORY:
After remarrying, I settled into my new home in the country with my husband, an artist his entire life http://splitfirepottery.etsy.com and also an art teacher, and our three dogs. I have been able to spend my free time creating again. My passion for beads began in 2006 with making jewelry and grew into making my own beads because everything started looking the same to me and I wanted something different ;o)
I first started learning about bead making by using earthenware and firing in my little itty bitty kiln, but I’m now creating with mid-fire (2200 degrees) porcelain. Of course, since I’m now offering my beads for purchase. I love to experiment and I’m never content with the ordinary, so there’s always something new. I love fashion and believe that keeping current is the way to go when it comes to bead and jewelry making.
My specialty beads are woodfired. They are very unique despite the fact that many people call smoke fired and raku beads wood fired. Although those both have their own character, the process is different. I am fortunate to have a husband to has a very large anagama kiln on our property and he saves me a small space in this large kiln for his semi annual firings. This is the ancient method of firing which was done long before gas and electricity. Please search “woodfire beads” on google and you will see that many of my unique beads come up.
Today, I am also part of another very new group called Love My Art Jewelry. Our motto is "Creating Handmade with Handmade." You can learn a little more about us by following our blog: http://lovemyartjewelry.blogspot.com
I hope you enjoy checking out my little creations.
