Andromeda's Stars
Andromeda's Stars started off as a little project I did on the side while I pursued my creative writing and literature studies at my university.
My mom had taught me how to wire wrap when I was in second grade, as she was a self-taught jewelry designer herself. I distinctly remember accompanying her in the basement work studio, watching her wrap an assortment of bright lamp-work beads and jewel-toned gemstones by hand, under the bright, florescence of a magnifying lamp. The glass and stones would sparkle, their facets catching light, their essence illuminated. It was mesmerizing from a young age, and still is today. There is something alluring about crystals, their vibrational energy, and the aesthetic beauty of jewelry design that gradually pulled me in closer as the years went by.
I graduated from my school some years later, and was also working part time at an indie publishing company as an editorial assistant. Life took turns, and now I have decided to pursue jewelry making beyond just a hobby.
I enjoy the creativity that comes with the craft of jewelry. I also enjoy continuously learning about gemstones, their historical lore and metaphysical properties. In some ways, those aspects of gemstones and jewelry remind me of my literature studies. As I learned about the lives of author's and the time periods they lived in, I learn about the history of gems and how they were used and perceived in society.
I hope to one day pursue a masters in creative writing (specifically, poetry). I miss school. I miss the lectures about craft and writing; I miss learning about writers, beyond their summarized biographies — I miss it all.
But, I will always create jewelry. Crafting is crystallized within me. It will always have a place in my life and heart, so no matter where my studies or life bring me, I'll always have jewelry. Whether it's just for my personal fulfillment or to share with others who find beauty and pleasure in the things I craft.
