Our Story - The Great Outdoors
Suffering from dry skin is irritating enough, but it’s a whole lot worse when you work, live, and play outdoors.
Our family lives and works on our farm in Mid Wales, caring for and riding horses, running, cycling, and kayaking are among the many sports activities we participate in.
We have all from an early age, suffered from dry skin which can become itchy, sore, and chapped on the face and body, and worse still, feet and hands, are prone to soreness and cracking, particularly in the winter and when going barefoot in the summer.
Over the years, we have tried many off-the-shelf high street creams and salves to try to alleviate this but to no great success! We then decided to combine with these, some natural additions of our own, lanolin, arnica tea tree, and beeswax (from bees we keep on our farm), to provide a more stable and healing salve. What a difference we started to detect!
Not happy, though with many of the ingredients used in high street skincare products, we decided to undertake some further research into making our own organic and naturally based formulas.
We were fortunate in finding a local chemist formulator who had spent 20 years working for and developing products for The Body Shop.
And so the idea for Balmy Fox was born!
Balmy Fox is our new, start-up business with a mission to manufacture and supply a positively different range of natural skincare products for active people, just like us.
Socially conscious, as well as using organic, ethically sourced ingredients where we can, and with 10% of our profits going to environmental and social causes and projects that support a fair and sustainable natural world.
To show our commitment to social and responsible causes, we have chosen three charities for this year to partner with, the World Land Trust, Paralympics GB, and Plastic Oceans.
Because we’re equally as passionate about products that truly work on skin complaints caused by the beautiful outdoors, and the environment, we make sure we use organic, ethically sourced ingredients where we can. Currently, around 80% of the ingredients we use in our products are organic and ethically sourced.
As we grow, and as better, kinder, more fairly traded ingredients become available to us and the market, we aim to make 100% of products organic and sourced from ethical farms and plantations. We also aim to become fully accredited as an organic company too, something we’re really excited about!
We hope you will join us on our journey!
