My mother used to spend hours embroidering lovely patterns on her clothing and household objects when I was a young kid. She carefully taught me how to sew elaborate patterns on fabric and thread a needle.
My love for stitching only developed as I got older. I started making my own designs and worked on them whenever I had free time. I found comfort in the soothing stitching rhythm and the accomplishment of finishing a project.
When my mother passed away a few years later, I took solace in the embroidered items she had left behind. A memory and a bit of her affection were stitched into every stitch. At that point, I understood that stitching was more than just a pastime for me; it was a skill my mother had taught me.
I now feel a connection to my mother and the women who came before us every time I pick up a needle and thread. I keep incorporating the history of our family into our lives with each stitch.
