Donating to Born Free's Amboseli National Park Elephants in Kenya since 2020
We have always had a love for harem pants - I have been wearing them for too many years to mention, for yoga, travelling, through pregnancy and for everyday wear around the home. Sadly, it's only been in recent years that I have discovered they make super comfy pyjama bottoms too!
The whole family have also always had a mad love of Elephants - for the children it started in childhood, when they were all lucky enough to have their 1st encounter with these wonderful animals on our youngest girls first birthday.
A recent trip to Sri Lanka gave us the opportunity to stock up on some stunning elephant print harem pants from local markets for myself and my three girls - the colours were so vibrant, we could have bought the shop.
As we were paying, I kid you not, 3 elephants sauntered passed the market shop with their Mahouts (see below) - Was it a sign? I don't know about that, but it was enough to get me thinking could we not buy locally sourced harem trousers, sell them back at home and give something back to help support their efforts to conserve and safeguard these local elephants? (after all the Elephant is all over so many harem pant designs!)
To cut a long story short, our search for a fair trade, ethically minded local supplier, with the range and vision to support our plans to create the most beautiful and vibrant range of high quality, fairly priced harem pants & trousers possible, took us to Thailand.
And it was in Thailand that we came across Bird & his family who run the Baanchang Elephant Paradise - the Elephant sanctuary we chose to be the initial recipients of donations from every purchase made on www.bohotusk.co.uk
In 2020 we added Born Free to our list - donating each month to the Born Free Amboseli Elephant Research programme in Kenya - at the Amboseli National Park - home of the famous. Amboseli is an incredible place and is the stomping ground of some of the biggest elephants (both in body and tusk size) in the world. What's more, they are also the longest studied elephant population and are home to the "Big Tuskers".
We have tried to keep plastics out of the delivery & packaging process altogether - currently harem pants are delivered with a hang tag, wrapped in black (or other colours) tissue wrapping paper and sent out in a "larger letter" sized re-cycled card board outer mailing carton - it's not yet 100% perfect but we are taking every step we can to have a zero use plastic policy.
Happy shopping - we love feedback (good and bad) - so please drop us a line with ideas / designs / styles / news on elephants - or indeed anything else.
Love & best wishes
Emma & all the Team at Bohotusk
