Why B.Y.O.J.
What is B.Y.O.J.?
B.Y.O.J. stands for Bring Your Own Jar. Here you can buy organic bulk beauty, household, and DIY products in packaging that you can recycle, compost, or BYOJ for refill and reuse.
How does it work?
Our bulk items, such as bath salts, teas, herbs, and others are sold by the ounce. At check out, you will have packaging options, such as:
- Paper or muslin bag
- Tins
- Repurposed glass jar or bottle
What you will find in B.Y.O.J. shop:
- package-free or sustainably packaged items
- items packaged in repurposed bottles and jars
- handmade accessories for bulk-shopping and food storage
- reusable household and bring-your-own cutlery, straws and other items
- organic cosmetics and self-care products
- organic herbs and teas
And more! We add new items frequently to make your sustainable lifestyle more convenient!
What you will NOT find in B.Y.O.J. shop:
- plastic package
- glossy colorful boxes (because all commercial colorants and finishes are bad for the soil!)
- non-biodegradable materials
- toxic ingredients
We pledge to eliminate this bad stuff, so you can make an easy sustainable choice!
Why do we charge for a repurposed jar?
Yes, a few of the jars come from our own kitchen, but most of them are donated by our local community. It takes quite a bit of work to clean them up, sterilize and label them. We make them pretty, so they are worth a spot in your kitchen or bathroom.
WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO BRING YOUR OWN JARS, so we will return $0.50 in store credit for every jar you send back to us* with our prepaid shipping label. Or keep it and reuse it the way you want!
(*Only not damaged jars with original B.Y.O.J. labels and/or B.Y.O.J. imprinted logo and original airtight lids/caps are considered returned. Any other jars and bottles sent to us will be accepted as donations and will not result in cash-back or store credit.)
Package charges:
- Paper bag at no charge
- Glass jar at $0.50 (we reuse glass jars from other grocery products)
- A reusable fabric bag at no charge (the bags are handmade from recycled fabrics)
