Believe, and you can achieve!
A little campy, perhaps. But I was raised to believe that I can achieve anything I set my mind to. That belief has led me down so many different paths - from piano, gymnastics and ballet when I was young; theater, cheerleading, and show choir as a teen; dean's list, student government, and a summer in NYC working in a biotech company in college. I earned my PhD in molecular biology and spent 13 months as a postdoc at the NIA before trying my hand at scientific sales for 5 years. If I failed, I tried again until I succeeded. And I did fail, many times. Leaving my scientific endeavors perhaps was looked upon as a failure by many, but I knew that I was moving myself in the right direction.
I met and fell in love with my husband when I changed my career from research to sales. 3 years later we married, and 18 months later my first son was born. I wanted to do it all, and so I changed careers again to become CEO of my new family. (That's a stay-at-home mom, FYI). I had inherited my grandmother's old Singer sewing machine, and started making receiving blankets, burp cloths, stroller blankets, and all other things "baby" for my new baby. The monotonous sound of the sewing machine calmed us both, and I started receiving compliments on the items I had created for my boy. Thus, my Etsy shop was born, to see if others needed the items that I had created for myself, to make my life a bit easier.
As my boys have grown and matured, so has my sewing style (as well the items that I create!) Sore backs, wrists, and shoulders had me thinking about heating pads, and so heating pads I created. Days spent in swimming lessons necessitated towels large enough to discreetly change from wet to dry clothing, and a bag large enough to hold everything in. Early bedtimes in the spring/summer have me sewing blackout curtains for the boys' rooms. I love figuring out how to put items together, and watching flat pieces of fabric transform into something beautiful and useful.
I hope you get as much pleasure from the items you purchase from my shop as I enjoy creating them!
